Title: Music Education Software
Post by: bdrums on April 15, 2011, 05:15:46 PM
Using HyperNext is it possible to build a software that displays a music staff, notes that sound a pitch with adjustable pitch cent values, a tuner, recording etc.  Similar to what SmartMusic program does but not as sophisticated(at least for now).  Just wondering if someone could give me a heads up on how much I can do with HyperNext as far as musical capabilities.

With HyperNext you could draw the graphics and play the sounds but unfortunately it doesn't have any way of recording sound.

Thanks for the response.  That is great to know!  Would I be able to adjust cent values to the notes being played?  For example adjusting A 440 to A 442 etc. Also, I am guessing that the app I create could be polyphonic, meaning that more than one note could be played simultaneously i.e. chord.  Correct?

HyperNext has 5 sound channels for playing sounds simulataneously. It also has NotePlayer commands for playing via Quicktime but a user told us the notes aren't accurate enough for serious music. Therefore without NotePlayer you will have to rely on your own note samples. I'm not sure how responsive the HyperNext engine is when playing several notes simultaneously.
