Card duplication and a Database in HyperNext
« on: July 01, 2010, 11:10:54 AM »
My HyperNext project intends, in a first place, to create a kind of text-retriever (for analyzing written texts from documents, interviews etc.). So I need to construct a database, with one card for one record (for example, an article). I've managed to construct a card with (so far) a couple of textfields and buttons. But how can I get duplicatesof that specific card. I've read your manual and it describes an operation in runtime mode in which duplicates easily kan be created. Sorry to say, but I haven't been succeesfull at all in doing that - it simply doesn't work. That would be very nice if you, in detail, could describe to me what to do in order to have duplicates of a specific card.

About your project - thank you for the interesting details.
Unfortunately it isn't possible to duplicate a card within the Creator but there is a project on our website that shows how its done at runtime in your app/stack.
Its called "Books HC" and takes a HyperCard approach to a simple database for storing book records - a new card is created for each record.

There is also a project called "Books HN" - it has the same functionality as "Books HC" but only uses one card to display the data and stores the data in arrays
This approach requires much less memory and is faster than "Books HC"
If I were creating a book database i would use the Books HN approach.
