Hi Jon
Welcome to our forums and thank you for your questions.
Greetings!
I just downloaded HNStudio the last hour or so. I have some questions.
1. I expanded the .dmg, clicked the HN folder. I assumed I was to copy(drag)the diamond icons for each item to the dock, which I did. Put Hypernext Docs and Examples folders in my documents folder, as instructed. Folder called "My HyperNext" appeared in which it has a folder,"Plugins." I have clicked on each program's icon on my dock. They all seem to work, and I registered them using the info. on the HN site. Does all this sound correct?
You were nearly there but dragged them too soon. Once the
.dmg is opened you should drag the
HyperNext Studio folder to your
Applications folder or to somewhere else on your hard disk. If you just drag each item from the .dmg to the Dock then when you shut down your Mac and restart it you would have to reopen the .dmg file to run HyperNext. Once the HyperNext folder is on your hard disk then you can drag those icons for Creator, Developer and Player to the dock.
2. How do you choose plug-ins? Is it the version ending with ".xcm"? Just click, then drag to the "plugins" folder in the my HyperNexT folder? For a new user like me, which plugin would be a good start to help me understand?
The .xcm files are Developer project files and the .plu files are are built plugins. The .plu files should be dropped into the plugins folder so that they can be used by a Creator project.
Note, if your Creator project doesn’t need to use a particular plugin then you can simply uncheck its box in the Creator Preferences menu and it won’t then be included in your built application.
The Circles plugin is the easiest to start with as the others use neural nets and might be a bit cryptic unless you already understand them. It shows alternative ways of drawing circles to a canvas using HyperNext script and RBscript. Note, the actual code that goes into a built plugin only resides in the MainCode section of a Developer project - every thing else including buttons etc is stripped out.
3.Finally, what do I do to see how the creator projects work? I opened one through the file menu and double-clicked on the name of another in the examples folder, but all that happened was the home card appeared, but nothing seemed to happen.
Jon
Once a project is opened in the Creator you have 3 options available in making your project - Design (Edit), Preview or Run - these are available either on the small Mode Switcher or via the menu Bar. You can also build your project into an Application or Stack.
The QuickStart PDF includes some tutorials on using the Creator to make applications and stacks. It also has a section on making a simple plugin with Developer so its probably best to read this before doing much with the Circles plugin.
Best regards
