Placing an Image on the Canvas

How can I place a jpeg Image on the canvas?

I can't seem to find the codes for this.

Note, there are several canvas-file commands but they are to cope with standard image types or cross-platform image types,  different file paths with or without dialog boxes, and local or absolute file paths.
